A church website has one of the most important jobs — it's often the very first impression a family or individual gets before ever setting foot through the door. For Mount Calvary Lutheran Church in Eagan, Minnesota, that first impression needed work.
The previous site had good bones but was holding the congregation back. Dense, wordy content made it difficult to find basic information, and an outdated visual design meant the warmth and vitality of the community wasn't coming through online. For someone new to the area, searching for a church home, or simply curious, I wanted the new site to roll out the welcome mat.
I led the rebuild from the ground up, as their in house communications manager, with a clear focus on making the site work for the person who had never been to Mount Calvary before. Every content and layout decision was made through that lens: what does a first-time visitor need to know, and how quickly can we get them there? The result is a site that guides newcomers naturally through what to expect, when to show up, and why this community is worth being part of, without burying them in text before they've had the chance to feel welcome.
The refreshed visual design brings the site into the present, clean, inviting, and reflective of a congregation that is active, engaged, and genuinely glad you found them. The navigation was restructured to be intuitive and human, organized around how people actually think about connecting with a church: Worship, Gather, Serve, Give, and Life Events.
